Whitby is Downing’s Medical and Veterinary Society which hosts frequent academic and social events for both the preclinical and clinical students. We welcome our freshers with a cocktails evening, giving them a chance to meet the older students and supervisors. We host frequent clinical conundrums and journal clubs as well as more formal speaker-dinner events, where we invite clinicians to discuss exciting medical and veterinary cases that they have encountered. This year, we are fortunate to welcome high-profile speakers from around the world, including France, Ireland, Malaysia and Australia! Our social events are often organised together with other colleges’ med/vet societies and we also have internal welfare events, managed by our two dedicated Welfare Officers, to promote the well-being of our students.
